Make your summer one to remember!
Summer intensives are absolutely amazing! I may be a little biased, but that’s only because I’ve had so many wonderful experiences at the ones I’ve gone to. It’s well known that these programs can easily become the best time for dancers to get the most out of their training. The benefits of going to an intensive are mind boggling! Not only do you receive amazing coaching, but you also get to make wonderful memories and learn valuable skills to carry with you for the rest of your life!
What kind of skills am I talking about? Only those typically connected to success, like dedication, tenacity, self-discipline, concentration, and problem-solving. Dancers get the opportunity to be taught by amazing teachers who are passionate about sharing their knowledge with eager students. Students are also pushed towards excellence during these programs because the teachers can see that they are passionate about going towards their dancing dreams. This creates a wonderful learning environment and the perfect atmosphere for memories to be made! I still remember some of the incredible teachers who taught me valuable lessons to help me improve and become the dancer I am today.
During the school year it can be easy to get burnt out and lose motivation with dance. I sometimes become tired and distracted during class when there are so many activities outside of dance that are going on. I have found that a summer intensive is an AMAZING way to get fresh inspiration because you get to clearly and completely focus on improving your skills and get new perspective on how to accomplish your goals. The intensity of dancing so much at a summer program causes your muscles to get stronger, and by the end of the intensive you can see and feel the improvement. When that noticeable progress is made, it makes it easier to stay motivated and improve during the rest of the year.
Parents, do you need convincing? Well, studies have shown that dance helps kids to excel in school. This is because dancing greatly improves brain function (particularly during the summer when parents fear their child’s brain will turn to mush). Not only does a dancer have to know the steps, they also have to be able to physically perform those steps correctly with the right timing and artistry. This means memory and visual-body coordination skills are being worked on and will continue to improve. By the end of the summer, students who went to an intensive will be a step ahead of the rest! Therefore, by continuing to dance in the summer by attending an intensive, your child’s brain will develop those amazing life skills. This makes going back to school in the fall an easier transition.
Honestly, nothing is more inspiring than taking the extra step to go towards your dreams. A summer intensive requires a lot of hard work from the students who attend, but the memories made there are priceless! Plus, parents can rest assured that their children are learning valuable skills that they will use the rest of their lives.
