Teaches Ballet & Pointe
Mia Whitehead began dancing under her mother, Melvina Whitehead, and at Ballet Magnificat! School of the Arts. She completed Belhaven University’s Dance Apprentice program receiving extensive training from Lauri Worrill-Biggs and Laura Morton. While at Belhaven, she received scholarships to Joffrey Ballet School, Nashville Ballet, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. Ms. Whitehead danced professionally with Ballet San Antonio and TALK Dance Company, expanding her horizons not only by dancing, but by teaching on a national and international level.
In 2012, Mia began working at Belhaven University’s Dance Department as an Adjunct Instructor and was promoted to Specialty Instructor of Dance in 2016. She currently teaches Vaganova technique for courses in ballet and pointe. She also co-directs, rehearses, and choreographs for the department’s Dance Ministry Ensemble, which tours throughout MS during the school year.
Mia is extremely grateful and humbled by all the Lord has done in her life journey thus far. As a teacher and mentor, she values the lives of her students and seeks to provide an environment for them to learn and develop their discovered and undiscovered gifts. She is greatly looking forward to joining LBA and moving the school in the direction God desires.
